Chiropractic and Pregnancy
Many women in our practice have asked if they can benefit from chiropractic care during pregnancy. The answer is YES! Throughout the pregnancy your body will be placed under stress from a growing baby and also additional weight gain. This will ultimately cause changes in posture, place stress on spinal joints and the nervous system. Most women experience some type of back pain or pelvic pain during pregnancy and after the birth. As we become more informed about the dangers of taking certain medications throughout pregnancy, expectant mothers are searching more and more for a drug-free treatment for their pain. We offer chiropractic care that is safe and accommodating to the mother.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy can have the following benefits:
- Reduced back and pelvic pain
- Relief from Sciatica
- Can help to alleviate problems experienced during pregnancy such as back pain, shortness of breath
- Reduced need for pain relief during labour
- Help to aide with breech presentations
The Webster Technique
The Webster Technique is a safe and effective therapy for reducing intra-uterine constraint allowing the baby to turn on its own. The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported in the July/August 2002 issue an 82% success rate of babies turning vertex when doctors of chiropractic used the Webster Technique. Further, the results from the study suggest that it may be beneficial to perform the Webster Technique as soon as the 8th month of pregnancy when a woman has a breech presentation.
